Lawless was the unlikely hero of Game Four of the 1987 World Series. With the Twins and Cardinals tied 1-1 in the fourth inning, he hit a three-run homer off Frank Viola as the Cardinals went on to win 7-2. The speedy utility man was playing only because third baseman Terry Pendleton's rib injury hindered his righthanded hitting.
