Tom Lawless Hits World Series Home Run

''When I make out my lineup card, I have to put first names down to remember who these guys are. I'm still trying to find out who Tom Lawless is.'' Lawless had not seen the quote when he came to the park but he was reminded of it several hours later, after he had clubbed his second major-league homer, a three-run blast, to help the Cardinals beat the Twins, 7-2, and tie up the World Series

Game 4 1987 Cards- Twins

Tom Lawless

Lawless was the unlikely hero of Game Four of the 1987 World Series. With the Twins and Cardinals tied 1-1 in the fourth inning, he hit a three-run homer off Frank Viola as the Cardinals went on to win 7-2. The speedy utility man was playing only because third baseman Terry Pendleton's rib injury hindered his righthanded hitting. Lawless had had only two hits in 25 at-bats the entire season (.080), and at that point in his career he had one HR in 215 at-bats and hadn't homered in the last three years. Twins fans
